You mean your stuffing box isn’t all new and shiny like the pictures?

My access is almost like the photos IF I pull the engine, transmission and V-drive.

Don’t know how bad it is on the 424 but in the 422 access requires laying on the floor, reaching at max arms length through an 18″ X 18″ access panel and trying to break loose the locking nut with one hand that you have to rotate to an extremely awkward angle that is almost guaranteed to sprain your wrist.

Really is my favorite thing about having a V-drive.

I trust the tone of sarcasm comes through over the internet.

      Skip,

I have a dripless whatchmacallit on Silverheels’ prop shaft, but
I did re-pack the rudder post stuffing box some years ago. Part
of my early boat refit included a sturdy but removable plywood
partition just forward of the lazarette locker. On the rare
occasions that the rudder box needs a slight tightening, I can
open that up in a few minutes and gain very good access to the
rudder post, quadrant, etc. Not like the photos (and definitely
not shiny), but very good… for a boat.

      However, regarding the captain’s manicure…
