Thought I was over the big hurdles and ready to splash after five years on the hard.  BUT, I called the trucker that moved my boat only to learn he retired and sold his trailer to a hauler in Seattle three months ago.  The problem is I did like Pete Dubler and had my boat hauled to the country which takes a special hydraulic trailer that can pickup and drop boats without a travel lift and these trailers aren’t that common.
Anyone (Pete?) know where I can find a trucker in north Florida with the appropriate trailer? Otherwise I’m looking at hiring a crane and building a cradle for a standard trailer.  The only other option is to hope for global warming and a really, really high tide._______________________________________________

I can’t speak for Florida, but I’ve been transporting my boat here in New England for about 30 years. I’ve used several hauling companies and have never had trouble find one. They are not rare. I have to believe there are several in your general area. Google “boat transporting Florida” and see what you come up with.Rich

Thanks Rich,
The problem is not getting a hauler, it is finding one with the hydraulic trailer that can load a boat without a travel lift.  I’m assuming your boat moves were between boat yards or marinas that have on site travel lifts?
My boat is sitting under a tree in a field outside Gainesville FL so would have to hire a crane if I can’t find a hydraulic lift trailer.  If your moves used one like this a referral would be appreciated.Skip

I ship my boat home each winter. The trailer has hydrolics for lifting and lowering the boat. This is not uncommon for a shipping company. Here’s a link to a list of florida boat shippers. I think you’ll have to start making calls.

Thanks Rich,
The hydraulic trailers I understand were all built by Brownell in MA so seem to be more available in NE but kind of scarce in FL.  I’ve been calling the local haulers but most of them right off the bat say no, they only have a flatbed. I do have a couple of leads I’m calling today I got from the local boat yards.
Got my fingers crossed.Â

ParticipantTom Wagner is who I used to bring the boat back to Fla. He lives in Fla but my delivery was supposedly his last great ride. He probably still does local work. Here is his number

Skip,
Have you asked Brownell in MA who has their trailers in Florida?

On Brownell – I’m in their yard in Mattapoisett, MA and I wholeheartedly and unreservedly endorse them! Great folks, very helpful.

Perhaps more common here. My Yacht club even has one just to move boats around the yard.
Good luck
