I am trying to determine what changes were made to Wavemaker before acquisition.
Where did Pearson put the house batteries if there was installed an inverter in the port cockpit lazarette?
Many thanks.

On my 1978 there were two batteries on the starboard side in battery boxes under the starboard laz. My inverter / charger was on the port bulkhead under the port laz.
I have since added a dedicated start battery on the shelf aft if the nav station in the hanging locker (starboard).Eric Lorentzon

ParticipantAurora is a 1980 ketch and also has the house batteries (two size 8D) in the
stbd lazarette. I added two size 24 starting batteries in the same locker,
just aft of the house bank. No charger/inverter.

ModeratorPelican came with two 4D batteries in the Stbd lazerette. I replaced them
with 2 AGM batteries and added a third behind the water heater for the main
bank. The second bank is 2 group 31 AGMs for emergencies. Then I added a Xantrex Freedom 2000 charger/ inverter plus 2 135 watt solar
panels. When sailing link offshore passages, I hook up my shaft generator.Bob
I’m not being terse. This is from my mobile.

They are in two banks, stored in stacked battery boxes in the starboard
lazarette. We plan to combine them into one large house bank and add a dedicated
starting battery at some point, most likely when the batteries need
replacing.-p

Thatcher’s question was, “Where did Pearson put the house batteries if
there was installed an inverter in the port cockpit lazarette?” I don’t
know, but I’d also be curious to know the answer if anyone has it.Tor

Wait a minute. Thatcher, did you mean if Pearson installed an inverter
in the port cockpit locker or in the starboard locker? If Pearson
installed an inverter on the port side cockpit locker of your boat, I’d
imagine they would’ve installed the batteries in the starboard side
battery box as usual. Is there a reason you suspect otherwise?Tor

Why do you have 2 starting batteries?
Did you have cranking issues that were resolved by 2 batteries?Rick

ParticipantRick,
At the time I was upgrading the electrical system (1999) and had decided to
install a dedicated engine cranking source I had difficulty finding
battery sizing information for the W 60. My Westerbeke manual wasn’t of much
help. I knew that others had installed a single battery (of size and
effectiveness unknown to me), so, since I had room for two batteries, I
decided to err in the overkill direction. Redundant batteries also appealed
to me. Having all the batteries in close proximity to each other also seemed
to simplify
the wiring to the three switches (one of which permits both banks to be
hooked up in parallel should the need arise).
I know that the practice is usually discouraged but, I use dual chemistry.
The house batteries are gel and the cranking batteries are flooded. I have a
dual output alternator which is regulated by the needs of the house
batteries and safe for the cranking batteries. So far so good.

I think my boat was as close to factory when I purchased her. She had inverter in port laz. There were 2 batteries in starboard laz.
So I believe the answer is starboard laz.Eric Lorentzon
