RichCarterParticipantI’m pretty sure we all have the same spreaders. I found that mine would slide down the upper shroud below even 90 degrees. I put a small cable clamp on the shroud so they can’t slide down. I wish the hardware on the mast were a little more robust.

Hi Rich,
Yes, spreader tips can slip, often on the leeward side when beating hard
(because the upper leeward shrouds lose some tension). Like you, I used
cable clamps to support Silverheels’ spreader tips, but I’ve used
stainless wire seizing in the past with equal success.Tor

I too use ss seizing wire . then a nice robust rubber spreader tip cover
along with fresh tape and this seems to work well. Never had a problem with
the tip sliding down.Rodd

RichCarterParticipantSo what do you do with the seizing wire? Just wrap it around the shroud and spreader tip?

Basically, yes. I believe in the past I’ve wrapped a layer of rigging
tape around the shroud first, to give the wire more bite. The wire
shouldn’t have to support any great downward force on the spreader tip.
It’s just to keep it from slipping along the shroud. Seems like a cable
clamp will provide stronger tip support.Tor
