ParticipantYes that is the plate. Here is a picture that shows the bent ends. They are all the same.

john stevensonParticipantAlan,
Not sure what your picture is of, but it doesn’t look like a spreader.
Are you talking about the flange that is welded to the inboard end of the
spreader. If so it might be bent to keep the spreaders angled slightly
upward to insure the tip bisects the angle formed by the shroud.
I can’t tell from my picture, nor looking at the spreaders from deck to see
if mine have the same bend. Does my spreader look like yours?Regards,
John Stevenson

ParticipantYes. Your probably right , pre-bent.
I have a coat of zinc cromate on as an under coat. Which is why they are yellow at the moment.

ParticipantAlan,
Are they bent in a direction that would raise the spreader tips or the
opposite?
I just worked on my rig a few days ago prior to reinstallation and didn’t
perceive any bend in the plate you mention. The spreader up angle on my boat
is built into the mast brackets, but, there is enough slop between the
spreaders and brackets that my spreaders have always tended to end up
horizontal. This year I put some cable clips on the shrouds to hold the
spreader tips up so that the plates are centered in the mast brackets.
If yours are bent in a direction that would raise the tips, perhaps someone
deliberately did so to make up for the slop in order to achieve the correct
angle at the shrouds. If the opposite, it would seem that they probably got
that way from loading.
