SpectatorI was just pondering something about my DC system. I have a Marinetec
Ammeter in the panel (I think it’s the one we allmost have). There’s no shunt anywhere on my boat… how the heck does that work?

john stevensonParticipantPatrick,
My DC ammeter has a shunt mounted on the back of the meter. Some
ammeters have internal shunts. So hard to tell, but there should be a
shunt.Regards,

ModeratorA shunt for 120 vac is much smaller than one for 12 vdc for the same power –
remember at 120vac, 20 amps becomes 12vdc almost 200 amps forgetting rms and
power factors. You can see why the different sizes…Bob

To suggest a runt of a shunt is a stunt is rather blunt.
OK, I KNOW where this is leading. Must be the waxing moon. Let’s leave
the rest to Shakespeare.🙂
