I am rewiring and cleaning out lots of unused wires in mast.
So far got everythin cleaned out.
My mast had a 1″ PVC conduit rivited to fwd on mast but only had a few wires in it.
Major problem was getting the bundled wires that were tied into the black foam stuff past the mid mast position where the lower shroud tang bolt went thru.
I ended up putting a 1 1/8 hole in the center of the area covered by the forward starboard spreader bracket which is above the split in the mast and lower shroud tang bolt.
Took me half a day to pick out the crumbling black foam enoughto be able to pull the wires out.
Then drilled a 3/4 hole in existing conduit to allow exit for masthead and foredeck light wires.
      So far so good.

Now wanting to plug up unused holes and touch up paint on mast and am wondering if there is anything magic that will bond to aluminum mast?

      Any help appreciated

      John,

I’ve used JB Weld to plug small holes, such as disused fastener holes, in my masts. It’s only been a year
since I did this on this current boat, but it’s holding up fine so far. Based on past experience with
this product, I expect it’ll last indefinitely. JB Weld is a 2-part, dark gray goop that consists of
Calcium Carbonate 40-50%, Epoxy Resin 30-40%, Iron Powder 10-20% and Aromatic Hydrocarbons 1-5%. It can
be sanded, painted, and even drilled and tapped. Strong stuff, and it sort of blends with the color of my
      unpainted, anodized masts.
