Just curious to find out what the options are for a midship cleat to hold a springline. Has anyone installed a cleat on the bulkwark or is a track cleat the best way to go. My docking situation requires a waist cleat and I wonder about relying on a cleat of the sail track. Did a search before I asked and nothing came up.

I use the Scheafer track cleats about $75 each.

I’m not being terse. This is from my mobile.

Don’t let the price scare you. You can get them for much less.

I use 2 of the Schaffer movable cleats on each sail track. One on each end. Gives you a lot of flexibility when moving around and doing  different docking situations on frequent basis.
The sail track is certainly mounted well enough to handle it……Although in a TS or hurricane situation….. but then you’d have other issues as well…… but for normal docking… go for it.

The cheapest I’m finding the 70-75 is Jamestown Dist. for $99. anyone find a better deal. I like the idea of having one on each end, does create more options. Thanks Allan #206 Now “Curve of Time”

I also use two per track. Try West Marine with Port Supply if you can.

My boat came with a cleat just forward of the gennoa track on the toe-rail. I don’t know if it came from the factory that way or if the first owner installed it. I put a short piece of stainless half-round on the edge of the toe-rail because the lines wear the woodwork. I put a similar piece of half-round for the bow-cleats. There’s nothing special about the cleat. Its the same type and size as the stern cleats. I don’t recommend using a cleat on the track for a boat the size of the 424.

I also put small cleats on three of the stanchions on each side to hang fenders. These work well.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Decided to go with 4 Garhauer chocks/cleats. One on each end of the Genoa Track. Allan #206 Curve of Time
