Hi Guys: I need to replace the mizzen halyard on MOJO (formerly ICON). Anybody know the mizzen mast hgt? Plenty of stuff the main mast but I can’t find any literature on the mizzen. Many Thanks/ Jack

      Hi Jack,

PY = 23' 0″ (distance from tack to head), EY = 8' 9″ (distance from tack to clew), boom height above deck approximately 6'

This is from the official Pearson sail plan drawing.

      Jack:

Bob’s numbers are pretty close. Since mine is lying on the ground (chained
to a tree and my boat cradle with a 1 ton chain hoist trying unsuccessfully
to remove my mast step) , I was able to measure it and it is exactly 30 ft.

      Hi Paul,

Is that the total mast height or the hoist of the mizzen – to replace the halyard, you'd only need 23 x 2 + a little for the length.

      Jack,

When I had my mizzen mast down for re-rigging/re-wiring last year, I recorded 30′ 1″ from the base to the masthead.

Hi Jack, that's correct – but remember the hoist or the length of the halyard is related to the hoist, not the mast height.

Paul, I used a cutoff disc on a drill to remove mine. Cut a few notches to open up the center then carefully work your way toward the mast. Once you remove a wedge from the step you can gently pry the reminder out. I managed to do this without damaging the mast. My replacement step from Rig Rite arrived this past week.

      Chuck:

Thanks for the info. My next option was to take the saw-all to it, but I was
hoping to save the step. Did you get mast step model PP6641M-S1 (at $349. –
ouch!!) from Rig Rite. I guess when you are the sole source for something,
you get to set whatever price you want. That price was making me think of
just getting one welded up out of aluminum. Has anyone made their own step
      for the mizzen.

      Paul
