      Hi to all,

I have been away a good bit, but back to working on Jubilee. Need some
      help with part identification.

      1. Raw water filter about 1980 – who was maker. My “basket”/ strainer has
given out and need to replace. Hope I don’t have to replace entire
      strainer.

      2. Jubilee came with a manual bilge pump in the cockpit – I believe made
my Henderson(?). does any know of a drop in replacement. All the rubber
parts have given out – rebuilt it several times, but no parts available – I
      think?

Hope everyone had a good summer – was nice on the Chesapeake.

The raw water strainer I have is a Groco. They’re not that expensive and
you may find one at consignment shops. You also may find a basket that
fits your strainer from another manufacturer.

I think my pump is either an Edson or Whale pump. Parts still available.
If it’s the yellow powder coated one, that is.

      Cada,
You are right on the manual bilge pump, at least Sarah came with a
Henderson pump. Henderson was bought by Whale a number of years ago. Back
in 2007, while I was still in Europe I was able to buy the same pump from
Whale. I just checked their website and I only see the Whale Gusher as a
comparable pump. I’m sure it can be adaped to the existing pump location,
and that is an excellent pump,
I think the raw water strainer for the engine was by Perko. You need to
contact them to see if they still make a strainer that will fit your unit.
I inherited three Perko strainers and replaced them with two Groco
Strainers. A single 1-1/2″ unit for the engine and generator and a 1′ unit
for all of the other seawater needs (galley, frig, A/C, and the head until
      2008 when I installed a composting head).

The original engine intake strainer on my ’79 424 was a piece of junk. It attached directly to the through-hull pipe with a nipple and elbow and was not mounted to a bulkhead. This put a bend in the intake pipe that caught seaweed and was difficult to clear. It was also dangerous IMHO since a failure of the pipe could cause flooding. I replaced it with a new Groco filter when I repowered about 5 years ago. A replacement is not expensive. If you have the same junk, I recommend that you replace yours with something better.

I replaced the manual bilge pump with a Vetus pump many years ago. The Vetus pump has an integral handle so if you need to start pumping in an emergency there is no looking for the missing handle. There may be better manual pumps out there, but look for one that is similar.

I just today checked my manual bilge pump (1980 Henderson MK) to see how well it performed. After trying to readjust the location of the pick-up deep in the bilge, the last 12″ of hose broke clean off, so I took the pick-up onto the dock and cleaned out years of crud, hair, poop and rinsed it good. We readjusted the hose (a later replacement project) and inserted it in a 2 gallon bucket. With my helper, water hose and full power spraying water into the bucket, I easily sucked that bucket clear faster than the hose could keep up. I noticed the slightest bit of wear on the rubber diaphram in the cockpit so I added a rebuild kit to my “need to”, as opposed to my “want to ” spending list.

Dos Locos, looks good. I think I might paint my bilge light grey now that I’ve seen yours. Curious, in the first few pictures there are two white hoses port and stb running aft down into the bilge, are they from the water tanks or something else? I kinda like your platform, keeps it all clean and close, but I wish to use my deep bilge as storage with 5 gallon buckets and be able to periodically give the bilges a good vacuum. I have my small pump fwd low down on a bar that is easily lifted out. My secondary big boy is far enough aft with the float switch up about 5″ off the bottom. It’s far enough aft, that 2 buckets can fit on the bottom of the bilge lifted up on a pressure treated 5″X 5″. My cockpit manual pick-up is aft of all that. I can easily store four 5 gallon buckets in the bilge and secure them down from the sole when I venture out.
