ParticipantHi all,
My wife Kathleen and I just purchased P424 hull number 206 in December. She’s a 1983 ketch rig with the one companionway, two head layout, and a Westerbeke 58 from 1991. She was called “Easy Reach” and “Curve of Time” by previous owners.
The boat is a big upgrade for us… we were previously owners of a 1976 C&C 30. We are very excited to have a big cruiser and to take our first long-ish trip up to Maine in July.
We sail out of New York City and will keep her at the Sheepshead Bay Yacht club. She’s currently in the water on the Chesapeake and I plan to bring her up as soon as it warms up a bit.
I have a few small projects in mind before spring, so I’m really glad that this community of owners and great website exist.

Let us know if you get to Cape Cod some summer. There are a few of us who occasionally meet there.

ParticipantIf we meet this summer, my boat is in Mattapoisett, on Buzzards Bay. She’s not in the water yet, but soon!!I’ve all the relationships with the local pub – it would be brilliant to host you all 🙂Ewan -

ModeratorWelcome Rich! Nice to see another former C&C owner…we started with a C&C 26 (which is on the market) and love C&Cs!
Question…is Easy Reach a factory cutter (i.e. with the self-tacking boom and post)? Just trying to clear up some myth and lore surrounding when the first cutter came out of the factory.
Cheers,
Evan

ParticipantHi Evan,
Thanks! Very cool. We thought our C&C was a really great sailing boat. A little tight for long trips though!
Our boat is not a factory cutter, however a previous owner added an inner forestay – they called it a “Solent stay” in their notes – for flying a smaller, heavier sail than what’s on our roller furler in gnarly weather.

ParticipantAwesome! I’ll be returning to Port Washington from Florida/Islands in the spring. There’s another 424 out of Port Washington I’ve seen occasionally as well. That makes a number of us in the NYC area.

ParticipantAwesome Rob! Great to know. There is a guy I spoke with when we were on the hunt for our P424 who I believe keeps his boat near there on the North Shore. Super nice guy. Said he lived in Brooklyn near me. He mentioned he was on this list.
