There is a company in Vancouver BC that is selling new in box Nexus stuff. I just bought an autopilot servo unit from them and supposedly they have a few left. Turns out they are the Comnav guys who had the Nexus franchise for North America a couple of reorganizations ago. I guess they are dumping old inventory.
They also have Nexus “wireless” wind senders. Unknown if they will work with Nexus “Classic” systems. Rich?

I don’t think the wireless wind sensor will work with the classic or NX-2 servers. They use the wired wind sensor. Offhand, I see no advantage to a wireless wind sensor. There must be batteries up there that need to be replaced. I have a wire harness running up my mast anyway. An extra cable for the wind sensor is no issue.

Since Garmin has purchased Nexus, I assume that they will become more popular and more expensive. They used to be a very cost effective instrument set. They will likely become high-end products. It’s nice to see that someone will be advancing the product line. It may integrate better with new instruments in the future.

Now may be the time to get spare parts.

      Quent, Rich et al,

The wireless wind sensor does indeed work with the NX2 system. We’ve
used it for the past four years with no problem. The masthead unit does
have a battery, but it is charged by an integral solar cell. When we
first received the unit there was a software issue, but Comnav (at that
time) quickly fixed it and it has been trouble free since.

So how does it work? Does it have an interface box that connects to the Nexus bus?

      Rich,

You are correct. The unit is called a Wireless Server Interface. Can be
Mounted anywhere inside the boat (we put ours in the hanging locker
opposite the galley) and hard wired to the server. I didn’t want to run
another cable down the mast, so this was a good alternative.

The Comnav guy selling the NX wireless wind transducer says that it would not easily connect to Classic Nexus but could be made to work with a NX2 server with some modification. However, the on line Nexus manual for the product which is referenced in the eBay ad said that it would work with all the Nexus servers.
Enough doubt that the $400 will stay in my pocket, I think. Will try to fix my old unit that got stuck courtesy of Sandy.

I sent my wind sensor out a year ago and had it serviced. He did a nice job. His contact info is below.
