I have REVERY, my 424 for sale. I bought the boat new in 1983 when I was a Pearson dealer. My company,Harbor North is the oldest and largest sailboat dealer on lake Erie. I took the boat to Florida in 1986 and she has been South ever since. Revery has been in the Bahamas for five years, Flroida Keys for five years, 11 years in Trinidad and the Caribbean Islands, one year in Venezuela where gas and diesel were 14cents per gallon and the rest of the time in the Cape Canaveral area. As you may guess this is a very well equipped yacht for cruising and live aboard. Revery is now in Georgetown, Bahamas until the end of April and then back in Cape Canaveral. If you want to buy Revery, you can take her from the Bahamas anywhere you want and my lady partner and I will help you sail it there. I am selling because my Lady and I are in our mid 80’s. She will be available in Florida after May 20. Jim Roberts, 1-242-468-1709 or contact Bruce Roberts at Harbor North 1-419-433-6010. The details are in a separate email since I don’t know how to attach a sent email. Jim Roberts

hi, I am the current owner of sailboat Silent Joy. after a recent storm at sea, 20 ft waves, the rudder assembly has started leaking. since the leak is small, I was hoping to take this time and communicate with another 424 owner that has experienced this problem. if you have information, such as the weight of the rudder, this will help.
thanks
mark

By rudder assembly you must mean the rudder post. It goes through the hull
via a stuffing box (bronze fitting at the bottom of the only part of the
rudder shaft that you can see from in the boat) There is a square top on it
that sits just below the cockpit sole and is for use with the emergency
rudder. If the leaking is at the bronze fitting (near the hull directly
behind the fuel tank) it is possible that your stuffing box just needs to
be tightened after some excessive movement from the pressure of the big
seas, It is a very large nut, about 2″ with a matching base nut at the hull
that is bolted through the hull. A very large adjustable wrench or a very
large pair of channel lock pliers will let you tighten the top nut which
will compress the waxed stuffing. If the water is coming from below the
nuts and at the hull I would recommend you trygently thightning with
caution the 4 vertical bolts of the stuffing box assembly. On Mon, Apr 7, 2014 at 2:51 PM, Silverheels wrote:
