Nearly two months after being flown to Orange Beach, AL a friend and I
finally delivered the Betram 54 to Belfast, ME on July 29. Spent the last
week enjoying the owner’s hospitality, but finally prevailed on him that I
needed to get back to Sarah and he flew me to New Bern, NC yesterday. Now
I’ve got to spend at least a week cleaning and restoring a boat that has
been abandoned for 2 months.
Earlier this week I noticed a 424 on one of the moorings in the Belfast
harbor. I never got a chance to get the name on the transom, as the winds
kept the bow pointing toward shore. Whoever it was I’m sorry I didn’t get a
chance to visit. By the time I had a chance to get out in the harbor on a
dinghy the 424 was gone.
A long delivery on a large MV was a new experience that only re-affirmed my
wanting to stay with sailboats. Still, however crazy it seemed to be
running a generator at the same time we were underway with the main engines,
it was nice to take a break and catch a nap in an air-conditioned cabin.
The 1900 nm trip took a little over 2 weeks. The other 5 weeks were spent
in Orange Beach waiting for the yard work to be completed and then waiting
in the Fort Pierce, FL for the owner and the OB yard to decided who pays for
replacing the oil coolers on the re-built engine.
