      I’m relocating a halyard winch on the mainmast. Incredibly, I got all five 1/4″ x 20 stainless bolts out
      without shearing a single one, and they having 30 years to bake inside the aluminum mounting pad and the mast
      wall itself. In the past I’ve filled small extraneous holes in aluminum spars with a little JB Weld. Anyone
      have a better idea?

      This same topic was discussed around this time last year on the SSCA site. In addition to the JB Weld you have used, other options mentioned were aluminum pop rivets, Marine Tex, or tapping (not required in your case) and inserting short machine screws.

      Short machine screws is what I've used in the past.

      I’m getting ready to repaint my masts and have been wondering about this
      also. I was thinking about an aluminum-filled epoxy. Also found the
      marine jb weld:
