ParticipantOn a previous boat that I had, I used Penatent Baby Cream on the prop and lower end of an O/B engine that was always in the water. Nothing grew on it for two seasons, but this was in fresh water. We would have growth on other parts of the boat that were treated with anti-fouling. The cream is zinc based, works great. I don't know how it will work in salt water. the price is right, about $5. Someone should try it out in salt water and let us know. I won't be in salt water for three years or I would do it myself.

ParticipantJack,
Two seasons is awesome longevity. It’s definitely worth testing in seawater. Where do you buy Penatent Baby Cream, at a pharmacy?

ParticipantHi Tor,
It's available here in Canada at any pharmacy, Wall-mart or any of these type of stores. It's used for spreading on babies bottoms to prevent diaper rash. Nothing sticks to it.

ParticipantA slippery baby bottom for 2 seasons between applications. What a deal!
Thanks, Jack.

SpectatorWhen I had my boat out last I scraped the prop and shaft sanded them with 120 grit and sprayed on a couple of coats of Pettit Zinc Coat Barnacle Buster (pic attached) at the suggestion of the yard. I think I still have enough in the can for 2 or 3 more applications.
I’ll let you know how we faired next time I haul.
