Anyone have any idea on where to get a new prop lock brake rotor? I am
still tracking down my vibrations and found the rotor to be very warped
and that it was effecting the alignment of the transmission output
flange to the adapter that goes to the jack shaft u-joint.

Since the adapter has a lip on it to center up the rotor, you can’t just
run without the rotor (or an equivalent spacer).

      Thanks,
      Pete

      Pete,

Silverheels didn’t come with any kind of prop lock. The PO just
let it freewheel, which is probably why I had to have the
transmission professionally rebuilt right after I bought the
boat. I installed a Shaft-Lok. It isn’t my favorite piece of
equipment – I’ve had too many problems with it over the years –
but the owner of the little mom-&-pop company is wonderful about
customer service. I’m on my second one now, the first having
self-destructed last year, and it has been working perfectly…
      knock on wood.

Three transmissions, three methods of preventing self-destruction.

      1. Hurth: ribbed case, put in astern to lock.

      2. Velvetglide: hydraulic, spinning self lubricates, no need to lock (I
have this and it drives an alternator).

      3. The other one, I forget the name, also hydraulic, but won’t self
lubricate and must be in forward or reverse.

You may not even need the shaft lock, unless it was original and you have
      the original engine/transmission.

The V-drive will self lubricate no matter which shaft is driving.

20/20 hindsight: Had I known at the time or just thought it through, I would’ve skipped the rebuild and bought one of the self-locking transmissions instead. I was re-powering anyway. Would’ve been easy.

But for those who must lock, the Shaft Lok may be the only choice. I don’t know of any other product for that.
