ParticipantBill,
I am trying to make plans to drive back to Va. to work on the boat. I know I can stay on my boat for a few days, but they discourage “living” on in while it’s on the hard. I am trying to search the Internet for a place to stay while I am there. It may be for a week or two, maybe 3.
Do you know of any places in the area (short drive) where I can rent a room for while or an efficiency apt that I can rent by the month? Something that won’t break the bank?
thanks

ParticipantAlan-
Are you still looking for a prop shaft? I found one that might work.

ParticipantWe haven’t removed the old one yet to determine if it’s actually bent. The strut is clearly bent. I have found a source to get a new strut cast. Will have to wait on the shaft.
Is this shaft from a 424 or just a similar dia. and length?

ParticipantIt’s a bit longer than necessary, just needs to be cut to length and keyed which can be done easily here in Annapolis since our original shaft is in the basement.
It’s from a 40+ foot Carver power yacht, used but in nice condition. Stainless aquamet 17. I don’t know why Pearson used 1-1/2″ shafts, way overkill for a 60 hp engine and low shaft speeds.
I bought it as a spare, if you decide you can use it, $200.

ParticipantGreat, thanks.
I’ll keep that in mind. I’ll be heading down to Deltaville in the next few weeks to start yanking the engine out. I’ll keep that in mind.

As a suggestion, take the thing down to a prop shop and have them check it before doing anything with it. You might be better off cutting the prop end rather than the coupling end.Odd that your strut is bent. I wouldn’t have expected that.

ParticipantRich,
I had the coupling off this winter so it “should” come right off. I should be able to save the parts.
As far as the strut is concerned…. 3 people have looked at and have come up with the same conclusion.

HI – I just read your email, as I Have not turned on my computer in the
last 6 days. I am at “Treehouse”, as it is now known, very busy with the
contractor, electricians, kitchen revisions, etc.
I’m afraid I can’t be of too much help RE; your request, although I do
recall a “motel” next door to the marina — askLew Grimm. I’ll be back in D’ville this weekend and will check in on you
good luck.
