ParticipantI need to pump out the 10-15 gallons of diesel from the tank before I remove it. Any suggestions on a good method?
Many Thanks

ParticipantIn my case, I removed about 60 gallons. Straight into someone’s mobile fuel polishing system. And from there into my friends heating oil tank for his house. I heated it the whole winter so I get free showers when I am camping on the boat while she is on the hard.Ewan -

ParticipantDanI’d find someone in the marina who wants some diesel and make it his problem. Alternatively, use a piece of metal tubing as a pick up at the tank. You might want to move the tank forward before using a hand pump/siphon. Otherwise, bend the tube to get in, then bend it straight again after removing fill hose and tank fitting. Finally, don’t make my mistake. Use a container small enough that you can lift it.Best regards,QuentEx-ClairebuoyantFrozen North, MD -

ParticipantI used a length of 1/4″ clear hose and set up my jug down in between the engine beds, well below the bottom of the fuel tank. Then I sucked on the hose till I saw the diesel far enough in the hose but not too close to my mouth and siphoned the bottom out. I never tasted the diesel, but I'd understand if that's not the way you want to do it. I'm just still a bit of a caveman.KenTaking what comes as I get it, using it all as much as I can and trying hard to leave all the shit behind.

ParticipantHi Dan,
If that’s all you have to pump out, why not just removed the sight gauge thru the cockpit sole viewing port, run a hose down to the forward (lowest) end of the tank, and sump out the fuel with practically any pump that can handle petroleum? When I bought Silverheels, I did that to pump out a couple of gallons from a fairly full tank just to be sure there wasn’t any water & sludge collected down there, since the boat has been sitting idle for a while. I used a $20 hand pump I bought at NAPA, I think, and pumped the fuel into a pail at first so I could see what was coming out. You’d need a few jerry jugs for 10-15 gallons.
