      Good morning all
On JONESEA #24 we saw the weakness at the rear of the ballasted
area,(some yards would block the rear of the keel…OUCH!), and added a
wrap of 3/8″ of glass mesh w/west systems epoxy.
The inside was ground down clean and an additional 1/4″ of the same was
added up to the top of the keel area. I filled the rear area with about
10″ of 8lb closed cell structural foam and finished it off by pouring a
heavy floor of white dyed epoxy.
Now we have a nice bright bilge area that can be accessed for
maintenance and is great for our 2 bilge pumps.
That non ballasted keel area was always an area of weakness and concern,
but no longer. Even a hard grounding won’t cause the boat to sink and I
no longer have to worry about lame brained yard workers blocking the
      hull improperly.
