SpectatorI’m pulling my windlass as part of moving it to a more desirable location (not at knee height in the v-berth) and while I have the manuals they are pretty poor about installation and removal. There are four bolts attaching the motor to the deck half of the windlass. I’ve pulled those. There is what looks like a large nut on the bottom of the motor inline with the shaft of the windlass. It makes complete sense to me that this a locking nut, complete with a notch for tightening and looseing and that I need to get it off, but in their drawings it’s labeled as a seal so I’m wary to go at it too aggresively.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Looks like you have a vertical windlass instead of the OEL sea tiger?
If that’s the case… No clue

SpectatorYes it is vertical. I don’t believe there were any standard windlasses. I have a letter between the PO and Pearson about where to install the windlass which was clearly after the PO had taken delivery from Pearson.

ParticipantFrom the pictures I’ve seen, even the Sea Tigers were mounted differently. Our’s is atop an (estimated) 8″x8″ solid teak block, which raises the windless base even with the toe rails.
