ParticipantHey, all you LI folks. If I were drive and take the
ferry over, which would I take? The one from
Bridgeport or New London? which is easier traffic
wise….closer to where I am going?
Thinking of driving down Friday night to take the 1st
ferry out on Sat. morning.
Paul – How are you getting there?

If you are coming from North or Northeast of New London, take these
directions. If coming from W or NW of Bridgeport, try the Bridgeport Ferry.
Trouble with Bridgeport is Port Jeff destination is not as close to E
Hampton.Coming down from New England the best way is the New London Ferry to
Orient Point. Then drive west on the north fork of long island
to Riverhead. Head South, then East on Route 27 all the out the
south fork to East Hampton. Note that while the marina is in East Hampton,
we are several miles north of route 27 which goes through the main drag of
East Hampton. Go through the village of EH and keep left at
the end of the village. When you pass the movie theater on the right get
ready to bear left just before the windmill and turn onto North Main Street.
Cross under the RR Bridge. Continue until the road splits and stay to the
left–where there is a sign indicating Three Mile Harbor Road. Take this
road up several miles to the head of the harbor. Then start looking for
signs for East Ha,pton Point. Our marina, Maidstone HArbor, is immediatelyl
north of EHP. There is an in driveway for EHP then an out driveway and then
the entrance to Maidstone Harbor Marina. The restaurant for our marina is
called Harbor Bistro and is visible from the road. Pull into the parking
lot and you’re there. All you need to do then is call for a pick up from
the raft group.Again, address of Maidstone Marina is 313 Three Mile Harbor Rd., East
Hampton, NY

Participantok good directions thanks
I am coming from the West…. but it does appear to be
easier to come from New London to Orient Point.
Rich, I may take you up on the offer for Saturday
night.
Although if S.O. wants to come there might be an
issue.

RichCarterParticipantI’m shocked to see that the fee for a car and driver is $51.20 one way. Each passenger is an additional $15.58. This sounds steep compared to what we are used to seeing for ferry service across lake Champlain.

Those boats are full and leavin’ people and machines at the dock on every
sail in either direction, July, August and half of September. Price is not
an object. It saves one about 300 miles in driving, or 600 round trip. Plus
5 hours.

Well, the Champlain ferry is in NY, at least at one end. The other end is in VT, another expensive state. The one hour trip is $17.50 for car and driver. I’ve taken it many times. My wife and daughter are negotiating when and where they will meet me. I think they might take two cars to New London and leave one there. Is there parking at the ferry dock? The reason they may take two cars is that my wife wants to leave on Saturday and drive to her summer camp in the Adirondacks. My daughter wants to stay with me and go home on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. If things work out this way, will anyone be able to give her a ride to Orient Point or is there a bus?

ParticipantRich,
I would be going back that way and would be able to
give her a ride. I just havent made up my mind whether
to go or not.
May be a few days before I can work out all the
details.

I’ll have room. Please call to confirm. I’d like to know for sure if you need the bunk and you never know, if I have problems on the way down I may not get there in time.—

Can’t help you with info on parking, as I have never left a car there.
Also, I highly doubt there is bus service from EH to Orient Point. The
ride back with another Rendezvous attendee might be the best bet.Rodd

Just confirming Rodd’s note. No bus there. Taxi across Shelter Island and in
to E Hampton. That’s a total of three ferries. One wait for one ferry for
sure (max 20 minutes) on Shelter, and VERY expensive. You could take a train
from Orient Point BACK WEST to I think Riverhead or further, and then change
to the Montauk line. Cheap…and interminable.

ParticipantRich,
Great, I think I’ve been able to make the arangements
that I need.
I appreciate your offer of the two settees.
I have your phone number and will call you when we
arrive. Although I am sure anyone from the raft up
could take take us out there.
I am planning on being there around 10am baring no big
delays.
