Rich,
A year ago I bought two opening portholes (with screens) as a special order item through Port Supply
(West Marine), to replace two of the original large non-opening portlights, one in the shower stall and
one in the aft cabin. The new portholes are approximately 23″ LOA by about 8-1/2″ tall. I had to do a
little cutting with a jig saw to make them fit in the old apertures, but only a little. At that time I
paid $664.30 for the pair, but I may have been getting some preferred pricing then. They were extremely
slow filling the order – like a couple of months! – but the portholes are very good. I think they were
nominally Bomar brand, but as I recall they came from some other factory. If you’re interested I can
probably dig out the actual source and (maybe) a model number for these.Tor

I went to the Bowmar website and looked at what they have. Their list prices for opening ports runs double what you paid. If you have any more information about the purchase you made, please send it to me. I think I may replace the two non-opening ports next winter, but I don’t want to pay $700 each for the ports.—

ParticipantIf you are talking about the cast aluminum Bomar ports on 1981 and later, they are (probably) available new from Hamilton Marine in Maine, at outrageous cost. However, as Rich touched on, the used ones are easily rebuildable with lexan and new gaskets. I’ve seen them in piles at Bacon’s here in Annapolis. I’ve even got a few here in the garage, both small and long sizes.

Hi Quent,
My boat is #17, built in 1978. The “ports” to which I referred were portLIGHTS, i.e., non-opening. I replaced them with portHOLES, i.e., opening. There was nothing wrong with the originals I removed except that they didn’t open.

ParticipantThe large ones? What size did you order? Did you
replace the 6 smaller ones?
