      Guys-

This rig “discussion” can go on forever! So I’ll put my 2 cents in:

I owned a P365 before buying my 424 . I’ve sailed the 424 for 15 seasons now. The 365 had a ketch rig, and other than a great mounting pole for a radar and other antennas, I felt it wasn’t worth the effort of setting and striking a second sail for the benefit it provided. That’s why I switched to a single stick when I bought the 424, and I am pleased with that decision.

To my way of thinking a split rig is beneficial on larger boats where the mainsail would be so big and heavy and hard for a short handed crew to manage (a boat in the high 40’s and up in length). Under those circumstances a smaller main along with a usesful size mizzen makes sense. As Rich mentioned, the mizzens on the 424 and the 365 were too small to be effective for much more than flying as a steadying sail at anchor.

So my vote is for a taller rig, single stick, but again, you pays your money and you takes your choice!

I agree with the 365 mizzen assessment, but not the 424. I sail most of the
time jib & jigger with the staysail added. I can do it in 10 knot winds and
      up.

I’m healthy and fairly strong but I don’t want to be wrestling with huge
sails by myself in a blow, thank you very much.

I can’t really imagine an easier sail to set and dowse except the roller
furling jib. It’s always my first sail up and last dowsed because it’s
right there. It’s great for sailing off the anchor (you can use it to force
the boat one direction or the other) and boom makes a handy crane.

Nevertheless, if you’re happy with the sloop that’s all that matters.
