I am trying to get a feel for what brand and model of roller furling other 424 owners are using.
Brand and model would be appreciated along with your opinion of it. Would you replace it for something else or buy it again.
      Thanks

Don’t know if you saw my previous reply, it appears my mail may not be making it out.

We have the Harken MKIV 2. Came with the boat. Works fine in all kinds of weather we have encountered.

      Hi Alan!

You have used the Profurl on Madness, though you may not remember much about it.

Its been great. No significant issues in the 16 or so years since I bought the boat. It has seen some hard use in those years as you know. The only issues have been that a set screw that holds the extruded forestay cover/spindle/sail wrap thingy backed out making it impossible to lower the swivel, so I had to go aloft one year at fall layup. One was missing, bought a new (proprietary) set screw, put blue lock tight on all of them and all is well for about a decade now.

it is simple, and the basket is open allowing for easy correction of any override.

It has required NO maintenance. Never had it apart, never lubed the bearings, just fresh water rinses. Period. My rigging guy says that is all it needs.

I wish all my gear was as reliable.

We have the same Harken as David’s on Revery. It came with the boat, looks older than Moses, but works fine. If, when we inspect the rigging soon, we decide it needs to be replaced, I doubt we’d go with Harken. Mostly because if cost, but also because it has an enclosed drum. But that’s not to say it isn’t a great unit…it’s a Harken after all.

      Good info
Thanks.  I still have original I believe.  No parts avail as I believe.  Mine has also seen some good sailing between me and PO.
      Thanks

      Thanks for the reply.
Appears either everyone is out sailing or the mail thing is not working.
2nd topic that i have  not received even my own email.  And only 1 response.

Harken MK IV 2.  No complaints but occasionally get some overrides on the drum if I get sloppy when the furling line runs out.  Unit came with the boat and appears to work as well as any other I’ve had, and I’ve had Hood and ProFurl.
