Been looking at MFDs and just can’t fathom how expensive they are
especially if you want one with a reasonably-sized display. I have
always liked a computer to navigate and a display in the cockpit. I had
used Cap’n and VPN with wireless to a waterproof tablet mounted at the
binnacle in the past. That old hardened tablet cost some $2500 (though
I got it for much less on ebay), was huge and heavy and the display was
not bright enough. Finally a thin, bright, waterproof tablet is coming
that does not require a separate waterproof enclosure… Now I just
need a good way to integrate radar input into one of the good PC-based
nav software packages… one that really exists and is supported that is.

(You can google Xperia Tablet Z to see the specs and a video … watch
      submarine movies…. sub marine…)

. But unless you stuff your tablet in a clunky waterproof case, it’s
been impossible to enjoy your pinching and swiping in one of the
most leisurely places of all: the bath. That will change when Sony

ultrathin Xperia Tablet Z launches next month. You can safely dunk
it in up to 3 feet of water for 30 minutes (just remember to seal
its port covers). And while its vivid 10.1-inch screen,
virtual-surround-sound speakers and 8.1-megapixel camera are nice
touches, the Xperia Tablet Z is all about going where no tablet has
gone before. Happy splashing. /$500, //store.sony.com/
