      Hi All,

Just got my Kyocera 130 watt solar panel and installed it over the dodger in about 20 minutes for the mechanical install, an hour for the electrical (there was already a dying panel there I replaced).  I'm impressed – it's quite a bit smaller than the ostensibly 100 watt panel that was there (which really behaved like and 80 watt, and frankly, comparing it to my neighbor's 80 watt panel, it's the same exact size with the same cell arrangement so I think it really was an 80 watt panel).  Anyway, it will provide enough power to run the refrigerator during the 10am to 4pm time slot!

      Woohoo!  Pictures if desired!

Well, Aaron, some people would rather imagine than see.  Tor knows me best, though.  Anyway, here they are.  The first is the old panel which is a depleted 80 watt, I think.  I don't want to throw it away, but I don't know what else to do with it.

The next one is the new panel. Instead of through bolting to the dodger frame I drilled and screwed it.  One less thing to hit my head on.  Actually four less.

Next, I ran metal screws through the angle aluminum into the lower frame (I made sure there wasn't anything there, of course).

The wire needs to be hidden better so I'll cover it with something.  I'm open to suggestions.

      That's it.

Next up, installing the water maker….

      Bob,

I’m afraid I had to delete your last email (with the new solar panel photos) from my host’s email server. The email was way too big for me to download through the weak wi-fi signal I’m using in my present anchorage. Because of the BIG size of the photos it contained it plugged up my server and stopped all other emails from getting through to me. Not your fault, just a connection issue.

Do you know how to re-size photos so that they’re, say, 800 pixels wide rather than the full size (several thousand pixels wide) that comes out of your digital camera? Photos of 800 pixels width is all that’s generally needed to see things like this. If you can do that with these photos (which I’d really like to see) and resend to me, I’d be most grateful.

Sorry for the trouble. Full-size photos are often problematic for recipients using less than shore-side broadband – as you will soon discover… 🙂

      Thanks,

      Tor

      Bob,

Thanks for the resized photos. Isn’t the main boom going to shadow some of the panel nearly all the time (except when the mizzen mast does)?
