Start of attached email. Subject: STEERING STUFFING BOX ACCESS

JOE & JOHN – good morning:
When you serviced your leaky rudder shafts, was it necessary to remove the
cross beam thru which the shaft passes and/or the ply platform aft of the
shaft in order to access the stuffing box…or did you hire a midget?

No, Bill, you should be able to get to the stuffing box under that beam. I
found it easy if everything’s out of the aft lazerette and I sit on a
cushion with my legs on one side or the other. It’s not fun, but it is
      doable.

      Bill,
The stuffing box can be serviced (re-packed) under the cross beam. I have
a NL 4.5KVA genset in the lazarette so it is very difficult on Sarah. I
have hire a boatyard muchkin to do the work. My wide body doesn’t fit.
