Those of you that have replaced their opening ports, how thick is the cabin trunk? I’ve rebuilt a set of original Beckson’s from another owner (powder coated and look better than new) and now want to replace the mounting hardware when I install them. I’m on the mainland and the boat’s in Hawai’i. It would be easier to find the right length of SS fasteners here and have them in hand when I return.

If I remember correctly, it’s about 1/4″ fiberglass and 3/8″ plywood.

I’m not being terse. This is from my mobile.

Sounds about right to me. The 3/8 plywood is the inside coach liner.

Aurora is a 1980 ketch. I replaced ports in the spring of 2011. My cabin
      wall measured 3/8 inch

Just to clarify, my 3/8 inch cabin wall thickness was 3/16 plywood and 3/16
fiberglass. I replaced some of the ply and had to purchase 1/4 teak plywood
which actually measures closer to 3/16.

Thanks all. I guess we’re talking about 5/8″ between the fiberglass and the plywood core.

      Hi Dan,
Perhaps you didn’t see my reply. Total thickness on my boat was aproximately
3/8, 3/16 of plywood and 3/16 of fiberglass. The measurements I took
calculated to .384 which I rounded to 3/8 when I ordered the ports from New
Found Metals. The fasteners they sent were the right length.
New Found has supplied ports for quite a few of our boats and since the
replies to your question varied quite a bit you may want to consider calling
them to find out what kind of variation they have seen from other owners.
      Regards,
      Phil Fontaine
