SpectatorHey Tor, I’ve gathered up all of your photos of your chain locker and windlass project, but I didn’t see any of the final result.Do you have one of the final foredeck configuration?
Thanks,

Hi Pat,
Final photo attached. I’ve been happy with what I did with the following exceptions:
– I might recommend a horizontal windlass to make deploying and retrieving the second (port) anchor as easy as the primary. As it is, it’s a bit tricky and could be dangerous for the uninitiated. (Note that the vertical windlass must be mounted offset to port so that the entry point of the gypsy is centered, not the center of the drum as might initially seem logical. A horizontal windlass would probably be mounted dead center.)
– I had originally intended to install a small access hatch in the deck forward of the windlass, to facilitate servicing the deck washdown pump and windlass junction box under there. So I mounted those things way up in the chain locker. Later I decided to forego that access hatch. Didn’t have the heart to cut a big hole in my solid new foredeck. I can still reach everything from the inside, but were I to do it again I’d locate them a little more conveniently for service through the forepeak entry hatch.
– I later changed the location of the deck washdown hose fitting from center (as in the earlier photos) to starboard offset (as in the attached), so the hose would run clear to starboard of the anchor chain, which is where I needed it to lead since I’m right-handed.
– Finally, I had to cut a centered access hole in that bulwarks to get at the nuts beneath the anchor roller guide plates. I had to remove and realign those plates so the anchor rodes would lead fair to the vertical windlass.I will say that foredeck is the strongest part of the entire boat’s deck. Like a rock.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Tor
