SpectatorI went out for a test motor today and things went great except for the last
100′ when I broke the transmission cable as I was going into reverse. I
shutdown the engine and we drifted down the fairway, when we go near a
finger pier I stepped off and stopped the boat then we dinghy-tuged her back
to out slip… Whew! No harm no foul.I’ve looked through the forum and my manuals and I can’t find anything about
the transmission cable. Anyone have a part # handy? I have a W58. I’m not
100% clear on the transmission makemodel.I’m guessing I can pull the existing cable and find a match that way too.
Thanks,
-p

The cables are pretty standard stuff. You should be able to match it up to Teleflex product at West Marine. Removing the cable from the Edson pedestal is a little tricky. Check with Edison for instructions, and use plenty of WD-40 or similar on the ss machine screws tapped into the aluminum housing if you need to remove them.
Where did the cable break? If it broke at the threaded end on the transmission, there might be enough left to use.

ModeratorHi Pat,
Quent is right – it’s either an Edson part (very expensive) or a
Teleflex-Morse cable. Go for the latter.Bob

SpectatorIt broke off at the control end if the cable in the pedestal. There is a couple inches of metal fitting that attach to the control lever. that piece has flipped back and is wedged after the cable broke. I think it will be fairly easy to pull in through.
The engine side of the cable lacks a proper connection. The cable is sort of tied and clamped very clumsily (but functionally) to the transmission control arm. I assume there is normally an actual fitting there. Anyone happen to know the part for that too?
Thanks,

Teleflex/Morse makes a variety of end fittings. West Marine catalogue,or the Internet would be a source.

SpectatorOnline catalogs are the best only to be bested by downloadable PDFs.
