I have every square inch of headliner out of the boat so I have a very good view of what is going on up there. I am a bit concerned about way the traveler brackets are fastened to the cabin top. It appears that Pearson used 1/4-20 machine screws and washers that are only 1/2 in in diameter. I can see that the interior fiberglass has been crushed in three areas. I estimate there are deflections of 1/16 in to nearly 1/8 of an inch. The deflection is greatest on the outside forward screws on both sides.

I was surprised that Pearson used such a small backing washer. Do you think I have a problem here? Should I just leave things as they are or should I replace the the washers with a fender washer? With the head liner out, now is the time to fix this, if it needs fixing.

      Comments appreciated.

I’ve never had my headliner out back there and now you have me wondering. My first concern would be water intrusion into the cored deck. As long as you have the headliner out, I might suggest removing the fasteners and fixing the holes so that water can’t get into the deck core. As long as you’re drilling them out, a larger fastener on at least the outboard end along with a backing plate sounds advisable. You’ll have to get your hands on a long drill-bit to get at the holes without removing the bridge.

If You are that far into it, you might as well at that point take the things off completely and refinish them, and at that point, just get a new Garhauer traveler.

So a few more boat units there 🙁
