      Patrick,
Did you get the ports installed?
I’ve already done the 6 fwd ports (5×12) and mulling over the sizes for the other 4.
Just out of curiosity why didn’t you go with the the 8×18’s for the four aft ports?

Not I’ve not started this yet. I asked them to not send them to me until May. Its too cold (well for Seattle people) to do this right now.

In truth, I wanted to use the 6×20’s in all the aft ports but the shower area couldn’t accept that added width so I had to go with the 8×18 (It will accept the additional height).

The main reason I changed the size in the aft ports from the 3×17 I was originally looking at was because I wanted the port to clamp to more of the hull than the 3×17 would have had to grip. They said it probably would have worked (“It only needs 1/4”), I felt better about the added structural clamp of the larger window. I will have to open up the holes a little, but having put that hole in the cabin top for the fan I’m feeling more comfortable with that.

      Patrick,
The reason I asked about whether you got the ports installed or purchased is this:
In the shower the overall length of window can’t be any larger than 22 inches (wall to wall measurement). The length of the 8×18 port is 21 1/4″. Now, on the longer ports they have 4 latches ( 2 on the bottom and 1 on each side). The 5×12 only have 2 latches. I am concerned that the 2 side latches may not be able to rotate fully to release the port to open.
That the lever on the latch will interfere with the wall.
So, have you thought about that? Do you have the 8×18 port on hand to check?
Anyone else doing the NFM ports been there yet?
      thanks

Sorry I’ve not gotten back to you.. you ask a very good question.
I’m asking that question of New Found Metals to find out the max width including operating the latches. I measure 23″ between the bulkheads in the shower.

I’ll let you know what I find out.

I checked it out this weekend. The latches extend 1/2″ inch beyond the max dimension of the port. In the case of the shower, if you remove the moldings then your still 1/4 – 3/8 inches short of using the 6×20 port….. oh well… it wont be so bad to have a picture window in the shower… Does your SO use curtains? the 8x……it will fit just fine.
