I drove down to Virginia last weekend and changed out the damper plate on the W58.
I replaced the NEW Westerbeke damper plate with the one from R & D (sold by PYI) Model 2W4.
I almost able to remove the transmission without lifting the engine but that darn lower port side nut (on the stud) just could not be loosened. So I removed the nuts on the aft engine mounts and lifted the engine with a chain fall just enough to get at the nut.
Had the whole job done in 4 hours and was able to start up the engine and for a few seconds put it in gear – (on the hard).
No metallic noises coming from the drive train.
We’ll have to wait till I get it in the water to test it more, but I am very optimistic.
John – this may work……
