This is a call to the “been there done that” guys out there. I have some new excitement today. My injector pump is leaking fuel at the rate on one drop per 3 seconds. Last year it was just damp. It didn’t heal.
What is the scope of the problem I am facing. Can you buy new pumps for the W60? Can you have it rebuilt? Is that a job that a handyman, but not mechanic like me can do or do I need to call the pros?
      Thanks,
      Charlie Stewart

O.k, I just did a search on the forum and saw all of the great responses you guys gave me last year (Feb 2012) when I was in Marathon. Wish I had done something with all that good information then. NOW, I have to.

BTW, here’s how it goes. I had just successfully installed the GXM 51 satellite weather system into my Garmin 740s and it was working wonderfully. I was so proud and thought how ready I was for the upcoming trip south next month. Then I went below and smelled diesel fuel in the bilge. Crap!

presumably different pump then W58 one. But I have a W58 if it will help.

If leaking by drive shaft to pump (not an atypical mode of failure), you
need to fix because it will thin out our crankcase oil).

Thanks, Pete. I have decided to bring in a diesel mechanic to just fix it. I am way over my head with things like heart surgery and injector pumps.

I would suggest looking for a diesel shop that works on heavy equipment. When I had a leak the marine guys told me the $500 fix the equipment guys fixed it for 3 bucks.

Charlie, Replaced my throttle, cutoff and driveshaft seals in the W60 pump for about $30 — parts on EBay. Search CAV DPA vendor is ‘mylexint’. Includes picture instructions. Important to properly torque pump driveshaft bolt. Do not replace the housing seals without doing the driveshaft seals. There are two driveshaft seals – an o-ring and a conventional seal.

If your mechanic doesn’t work out give it a shot — worked for me!

When I talk to these diesel shops, they ask me to look at the tag on the injector pump and give them the DPA number. I have looked everywhere and there is no tag, and to my understanding, no DPA number. Does anyone with a W60 have such a number on a tag on their injector pump?
One shop (Trans Atlantic Diesel) thinks that it is DPA#3342F110, but I cant verify that. Just wondering if anyone has seen what I am talking about.
      Thanks,
      Charlie

My W60 injector pump has a tag riveted just under the fuel pressure sensor. It reads: 3342F118 (the 8 might be a 0)

      and: P5110671

There are some other illegible numbers in a different field. I am not sure from my notes which of the above are the DPA numbers, and which are Serial numbers.

Just re-read your post, and see that it is apparent which is the DPA, and very likely that the 8 I read is in fact a 0.

Walter: thanks for the number. This matches (with the zero) what the lady at TransAtlantic Diesel thought it was.
