I am in need of a dipstick. What is the fill level (ballpark) for gear
oil in the v-drive? Do most people use 80 or 30?

I’ve always used SAE-30 oil. This is the same stuff I used to put in my engine, but my new engine wants blended oil. In any case, 30 weight oil has always worked for me.

      Alan-
The length of the Walter RV-20 oil dipstick from the shoulder that fits against the top cover, to the “H” mark is about 9″. To the “L” mark is about 9-3/4″.

I use 30 SAE. One time, in the Rio Dulce, the seal started leaking., I then used 90w oil to minimize the leaking. It almost stopped with the heavy oil. I had the unit rebuilt when I returned to the US, but it cost so much in labor I would have been the same amount of money to buy a new one, if I could have made out the all but oblitered model number.
