ParticipantI left the island of Bequia and sailed north towards St Vincent. I motored the first 4 hours because there was no wind. As i sailed about 1/2 way past St Vincent the wind picked up to about 12 knots. I still had the reef in the main and a full 135 genoa up. I sailed St Vincent and into the open towards St Lucia. The wind picked up to to a steady 18 knots.
One the most spectacular sails I have had here.
The speed was just climbing. Now, I was sailing north and there was aabout a 1.5 to 2 knots west setting current.
This is the picture I took….A lot to be said for not having too much canvas up, the boat balanced, not too much weather helm
I just did not want it to end.

ParticipantAh yes, but this was no Sunday sail. I was heading for the next island. As you come up on the island, you need to be doing as much easting as you can as the wind tends to wrap around. That is, if you expect to make a landfall any time soon. If the wind does go aft, you need to take advantage of the lift and go with it.
