      Joe:

Quent hasn’t posted any pictures yet, but he installed a small portable
washer where the dirty laundry spot is to the left of the sink in the head.

As far as the dryers go, I thought all 424’s came with a matched set of both
      port and starboard dryers.

Alan: The owners manual doesn’t give energy consumption, but it does give
the running times for the washing and spin cycles, so I assume it could be
estimated if the motor size was known. You would be running the washer the
same time as your soon to be built diesel genset and water maker is running,
so power consumption shouldn’t be a big issue, assuming these things will
      run off of an inverter.

Sorry to be so late in replying. The P.O. installed the holding tank for
the head in the same space that so many other owners have used so much more
      creatively.

I was wondering if my 1800 Watt inverter could carry the load.

“I was wondering if my 1800 Watt inverter could carry the load.”

That will probably depend on the surge capacity of the inverter and if this
machine likes to run on a modified sine wave or not. It will be interesting
to hear how Quent powers his.

I found a place near Toronto that has these units for $150 CAN (about $120
US). If I am in the area, I may pick up one to try. There is something to be
said about the simplicity of a pail and plunger though. The spin dry ability
is probably what interests me the most on these units. I noticed they cost
about the same as a quality clothes wringer. Of course a quality clothes
wringer will last a lifetime, while these Chinese made units definitely fall
      into the disposable appliance category.

Bucket and a plunger! That's the part I was missing… the plunger bit. That would make it ever so much easier! How long do you plunge before putting the softener in?

Hey! Not for me, for my girlfriend, if I ever have one.
