RichCarterParticipantWhen I haul with full fuel tank and empty water tanks, the scales say about 24000. I don’t really empty the boat when I haul. I might have about 1500 lbs of stuff in there including anchor gear.

ModeratorOk, here’s the scoop: the weight and the actual displacement are exactly
the same or the boat would sink. But the tonnage on the documentation
isn’t calculated that way. It is the number of 100cu.ft. volumes that can
carry cargo. That said, if the boat dry weighs 23,000lbs, it necessarily displaces
23,000lbs of water. It turns out that doing so leaves 3′ of freeboard, but
that’s a design choice.I assume each one of our boats weighs a little differently depending on the
interior and rig. Mine’s the L-shaped ketch.Bob

And my 424 displaces a little more this afternoon due to a basketful of
fresh mangos, star fruit and bananas I just bought from a St. Lucian
Rastaman in a dugout cayuco. Irie, mon.She ain’t heavy; she’s my sailboat.

ParticipantTor: hope you have a blender on board. Sounds like a mango daiquiri party coming!

ParticipantThank you Archimedes. This is why water lines and boot strips tend to
move up over time on cruising boats.Pete

ModeratorAnd, sadly, boaters…
I’m not being terse. This is from my mobile.
