Where have people placed their holding tank? I am looking to put one in this winter and want ideas as to where to put it. I have an electric sans in the salon area (middle cabin sole).

My 424 was originally fitted with a tank in the back of the main cabin hanging locker next to the midship companionway. I think it was in the back of that locker. It was later refit with an Electra-san under the cabin sole just forward of the bilge sump by the first owner. I relocated the electra-san to the head cabinet just next to the head pump. My thought was that short hoses would be easier to maintain and less odor. I’m planning to put a Y valve in and a small tank where it was originally located.

      Regards
      Rich

I have a 28 gallon tank in the bilge behind the ballast. Pictures if you
      want them on

Lady Leanne has her tank just forward of the deep bilge. I believe that it’s the original position. The PO mounted a macerator just below the hatch located between the galley drawer cabinet and the midship companionway stairs. The macerator is abaft and above the tank.

I mounted Navasana’s holding tank atop the encapsulated bilge, aft the mast step and accesible by via main bilge.
Y valve inside the haging locker after the head allows discharge direct or to tank inlet.
Y valve mounted under cabin sole directs to deck level pumpout or to macerator for direct discharge. We had a bit of a problem with oder in the hanging locker (aka stinky locker) seemed to get fixed when i upgraded vent hoses to sanatation hose. orignal installation used some left over fresh water hose I had kicking about.

I have taken up a big part of the sole in the saloon to glass in a new
fuel tank. I calculated that I can get a 95 gallon tank in this space
(between the mast and main bilge and 42 inches wide. So, if you want to
cut out the sole, there is plenty of space for glassed-in tank. (I
spent about 5 hours yesterday moving the wires and hoses out of the way…).

Also, if you are interested, I have a new small holding tank that is the
largest I could find that would slip through the bilge sole hatch and
slide forward under the saloon with a tank gauge in it and fittings if
you are interested. Also a macerator pump that has never seen the brown
stuff and three-way valves. (I am going to switch over to a composting
head). Also have an electro-san to sell.

Unbelievably, yes, it can – it’s like a waterpark ride for poo.

LOL. While you are at it, consider the following for your toilet paper

Absolutely classic. I wonder if it’ll fit on deck…

It’s a hole… about 44 x 32″ That big red hose is the deck was
line. Runs from the aft end of the aft berth where there is a thruhull
to the pump, under the galley sink, to the deck wash fitting on the port
side of the deck beside the anchor locker. Pretty silly… I am going
to move the pump to under the v-berth sink and use the sink drain as the
source of sea water (tee the fitting).

See the vertical wall in the fiberglass, just behind the mast step?
That will be the front of the tank. The aft edge will be just in front
of the flat area in front of the deep bilge. This will leave me a step
for getting down into the bilge. My new fuel valve/filter/polishing
system(with a drip catch pan) will mount on one side there (pictures
later) and the valves/filters for the watermaker on the other side. I
am debating about topping the tank below the 2×4’s or coming up a few
inches on either side. There will be an access hatch for the fittings.
I will add another button to my TankTender for use as the tank gauge.
More fun on the Front Range…

On Easy Reach, plan “A” below decks (2 full heads, no midships companionway), I installed a rectangular 25 gal tank underneath the aft forward facing setee. It works, but is angled in such a way that the outlet, which is outboard, is higher than the inboard end of the tank. Consequently, it never gets completely emptied. If I were to redo it, I would insert a downward pointing elbow into the outlet opening so it would pick up more of the effluent.
