    Hi Jeff,

I just installed a DST810 on my B&G system. For the sounder to work properly you will probably have to drill a new hole on the centreline. Mine is just under the small forward hatch in the floor of the vberth. Makes it easy to get at and readings are very accurate. Love the Bluetooth calibration. My understanding is that the temperaure part of the airmar transducer is iffy. That’s why I replaced the original 800. Very good so far but…..

Thank you for the prompt replies David and Rick. I will phone White Water as well as follow up with Dave and see which one offers the best deal for those lonely 424-types out here on the west coast. Funny that Dave at Railmakers doesn’t seem to remember the past deal. However, it has been 10 years so that may go some way toward explaining the fading memory.

    Thanks again.

PS. I still would like the name of a good stainless steel fabricator out here on the west coast—someone with a shop I can actually sail close to.

    all the best

My deep apologies for being out of loop on the mast pulpit posts. I have been reading lots of your posts and it seems, if my reading is correct, that the group has had the mast pulpit rails made and by a whole bunch of different shops. I just spoke with Dave at Railmakers and he says the group buy did not materialize. I notice Pete Dubler has a nice unit installed but NOT made by Railmakers, and some of you used a Florida fabricator.

So lonely old Dumela is out here on the west coast, but her aging skip needs those granny bars. Two questions: any manufactures out here on the west coast that I might use? Anyone interested in a group buy?

For your amusement, the local Victoria fabricator just quoted me $3500. Even converted to US dollars that seems a bit steep compared to what some of you have paid.

Sorry for the long post but its cheaper than going into boaters’ therapy anonymous

    Hi Rick

Methinks my non-skid coating is Kiwi Coat as it was actually done in New Zealand. Many sea miles later it needs some renewal but it doesn’t owe me anything

I would be interested in people’s experiences repairing knarled edges of Kiwi Coat. Do I have to strip it all off or may I be my normal lazy self?

Sorry for the late reply to Stephen…..we too repowered our Pearson 424 with a Beta 50. It is quiet, efficient and economical to run and was not too much hassle to fit. We rebuilt the RV-20 at the same time but it did not really need much. I have been running it without any coolant for about 10 years in all sorts of conditions; it never gets above 180 degrees.

    Hi Tor

I just asked “admin” if I am meant to be getting every single entry on the 424 forum in my email box.

I have never been a member on a forum before but I think that can’t be correct

    Sorry for the confusion

I know nothing about the pay pal message

    Hi Skip et al.

We’ve been running our v-drive with no cooling for 2 years now.
We’ve run in excess of twelve hours straight at 6.5 knots and never
seen the v-drive case temp above 95F. Granted we are in Lake
Superior so I can’t comment on warmer climes, but it works for us.

    Dave and Pat

Never posted before so no laughing or general mocking!!

Like Dave and Pat above, I have run my Vdrive (after repowering with a Beta) without any cooling at all and found it never gets hot. I take its temp. religiously and its seems to have survived nicely. The former owner took it from Victoria to Australia and back without incident.
