ParticipantThat traveler on Eclipse looks really nice!

ParticipantNot sure if we can make it up to Massachusetts this year but it is on our cruising plan for the future.
We just bought our 424 and are still in the process of bringing her up from Florida to Solomons MD. She’s being repowered (unplanned) right now and by the time I get her here I’ll be short on vacation time for this summer.Rich Harris
ParticipantDave and Nikki,
I’m going to be replacing my traveller very soon as well. Would love to get some feedback on your swap especially cost. Maybe Guido can work a deal for more than one traveller? I also plan to hit the Annapolis spring show on Friday to see what is available. I’m not expecting too much since the spring show is quite small but it’s a good excuse to stroll the show.

ParticipantI’m relatively new to the 424 world but as Ryan said, 424’s have encapsulated keels and that’s part of why I bought a Pearson. They are not bolted to the hull. Either your surveyor confused a Pearson with another manufacturer or he might not be the best surveyor for a Pearson or both.

ParticipantWell, in a few days I’ll no longer be a 424 groupie! We’ve decided to go with the boat. We close on Friday and will be bringing her home within a few weeks to Southern Maryland. Her current name is GAMBIT II and we’ll keep it until we get her home and complete the USCG documentation. The new name will be “Forget Knot”. The Admiral and I are very happy and excited to bring her home!
Thank you all for the help we received from the forum and hope to continue to learn and contribute!Rich Harris
ParticipantEvan,
I was thinking the same thing. I’m more or less looking to confirm my thoughts and I thank you for your reply. After reading the 424 site and a few other resources, I’m fairly confident it’s pretty easy to check alignment once in the water. Sailboat bits are just a little different than 1000hp RHIBs.Rich Harris
ParticipantRich,
You guys got a real gem in Jubilee. She is a beautiful well maintained boat. Worth every penny she was asking. We’re going to bring ours up to the Chesapeake once we close and intend to offer to take the previous owner sailing when we can. She’s a really nice lady and we know she will miss Jubilee.

ParticipantOK I have a follow-up question. The surveyor found the propshaft is off center in the shaft log. He says it could be an issue. I’m not familiar yet with the construction of the stuffing box and how the assembly is constructed for this particular boat. The owner recently had the v-drive replaced and realigned and says the boat sits like this when it’s out of the water and there’s no issue.
I’d love to hear you all weigh in on this. I’ve included a photo.
Thank you.Rich Harris
ParticipantUpdate: We were able to talk to a surveyor who did an insurance survey recently and he said he didn’t note any issues with the hull or bulkheads. He’s doing the dry survey tomorrow and we’re planning on doing the rest of it on the 20th. We’re both pretty excited. Thanks for the answers! It set me at ease.
