    Thank you Rich and Warren.
I went to the auto parts store, but was unable to find a match. I found a gasket, but could not match the housing. It was a great idea…What is the actual block producer of the W 60 anyway?

Every time I have trouble finding a part, I rethink my decision not to repower. The only thing stopping besides the money aspect is the engine starts quickly every time.

I just preventively replaced heat exchanger, oil and transmission coolers, all hoses, fuel filters.

Has anyone switched over to synthetic oil yet?

Any old Westerbeke 60 left for parts?

    Ken you are right!

Tor’s setup is awesome and I too wish I had it!
My purpose for the emergency rudder is to satisfy requirements for the regata al sol race from Pensacola to Isla Mujeres, Mexico.
I was thinking something low tech and inexpensive way to satisfy the requirement.

If I ever purchase a self steering system it will be like Tor’s for sure. I like the way he added a tiller auto pilot to the system, brilliant!

    Thank you ken.

This will give me a start. I am having trouble on materials to use. Do you use wood covered wih fiberglass for rudder and cassette box. Or use aluminum reinforcement. Another way to consider would be galvanized pipe and plywood and consider it “single use” because of rust.

    Thanks Adam

What is the approximate size of the 424 rudder?

Thanks for the response. I’ve looked at cassette designs as well, but haven’t found plans of one for boat our size with someone who has used it in to sail the boat.

I also saw price of scanmar rudder and was run off by the high price.

    Thanks,
    Adam

    Skip,
Never heard from anyone about picking up the stove.

Are you still planning on picking it up?

    Thanks,
    Adam

If no one can use the intact stove, I don’t mind trying to remove parts and trying to ship those if needed. Hate for something to go to the dumpster if someone may have a use for part of it.

Skip I can ship you parts now, and Tor I can ship your parts later when you return to the states.

I apprectiate all of the helpful information and support from this group, it makes projects and upgrades so much easier! So anyway I can help any of you, I will try.

    Tor and Skip,

UPS quoted about $164.00 for shipping from here to business address in Gainesville, FL.

Does this sound ok with you?
I won’t ship til after holidays.

Skip, sorry I missed your message.
I found it and will work on sending the stove to you as long as it is ok with Tor, since he claimed it first.
I am happy someone can use it, and not go to waste.
I have the shipping box from the new stove to use on this one.

Tor, I would be happy to hold it for you. I’ll just put I in the shed and store it. I saved the box from the new stove to use for shipping this one out.

If it weren’t for having to work, I’d just sail down and deliver it to you myself!

Thanks for all of the help! Seems like the majority of you like the 135 %.
Never thought of cutting the 155 down to get a smaller sail, great idea! Wondering if Shay or anyone else has done the Isla Mujueres race, and what was needed. My current sail is in ok condition, but has lost it’s shape and doesn’t point as well. Also have a roller furling main, and understand some loss of some sail area. I do use my mizzen staysail at times as Tor described, but I sure could have used that great diagram and pics years ago!
