ParticipantI have the ketch rig and sail on the Gulf coast.
At times glad I have the 155, put other times I could do with less.
Also have a small jib (90%?) in new condition in a locker down below.Adam

ParticipantSpeaking of manual bilge pumps. Those of you who have installed manual pumps inside the cabin, which pump and what location have you chosen?
Thanks,
Adam

ParticipantI purchased the Mermaid unit and installed it about 1 1/2 years ago. It has performed well with both a/c and heat. Purchased direct from Mermaid and the staff was very helpful with installation. The unit was mounted inside hanging locker next to 2nd companion way with ducts forward and aft. Happy so far.

ParticipantThanks for the replies! I took the hatch off the boat and will have new acrylic cut. I have heard different opinions on how long to set up the sealant ( Dow 795 or GE Ultraglaze 4000 ) for about 3 weeks before cutting away excess. Is this the best way to go, or remove the tape immediately and wipe edges like normal caulking.

ParticipantThanks for the quick replies! Bob where does one get acrylic fabricated and what was the approx cost. My paint on hatches is in pretty good condition.
As to the NFM hatch, is it a simple drop in, or does the hole have to be enlarged? Is it worth the expense ?

ParticipantAre these new ports a better design or will they leak like the old ports?
How are the ports from new found metals?

ParticipantWe also have the PH-II, but have considered purchasing a new electric head because of our “little people”. They sometimes put in too much toilet paper and it gets clogged. Always fun to clean out with a boat load of people. Let us know what you decide and how it works out.

ParticipantLet me say this. Both of the pics of cradles from John and Tor look much stronger than what I was sent from zodiac.
Tor your pics and placement look great! I think it will fit in this spot, and will check this weekend.
I’m going to see if someone can fabricate a cradle to look like yours.
Thanks for the help!

ParticipantThanks for the help!
I like Tor’s placement of the raft the best. I have a 3″ vent above the head in this area, but may fill it in to mount the raft there.
The zodiac cradle was $550 and didn’t include the rectangular bar to mount all of the corner mounts. Which would be ok on a flat surface, but nowhere is perfectly flat!
Wood cradle would be the easiet to build Bob, …but daggone it, I just got done sanding and redoing all my teak last month. I really hate the idea of adding more wood! It looks nice now.
Would custom stainless cradle be expensive? I don’t know anyone down here who does this. If anyone knows someone, I’d like their number.
How thick is the cabin top?
Thanks,

ParticipantI am afraid of all the hard work needed to remove a two part varnish in the future. I’m going to try Epifane woodfinish gloss. It says it doesn’t require sanding in between coats.
I hope it works!

ParticipantI am trying to decide if to use sikkens cetol as in the past, or try something new. Possibly even varnish.
What do you use?

ParticipantYour ports look great. You all have done LOTS of work! Stainless is the way to go if you are going to all the trouble to replace the ports. Did that company have the best deal?

ParticipantThanks for your replies. I have a 12 volt electric fuel pump in place before the lift pump on the engine. I was told ( obviously inaccurately) that the fuel lift pump had to be in place for the engine to work.
I am sending the high dollar pump back, and have located the same pump for less than 1/4 the price!! I will see if it will align up existing pump. It would be nice to know the diesel would continue to run if the electric pump failed.

ParticipantThe PO had roller furling installed on both the main and mizzen. I’m not going to lie to you, Its freaking awesome!
My wife can raise and lower the sails by herself in a minute, and without ever leaving the cockpit.
On our previous boat it was always my job to go on deck to wrestle the main. I don’t miss it.
