ParticipantAllen,
Markel would not cover me, as they need a year before offering offshore coverage.
My insurance guy (Smithwick and Mariners) found me Traverelers. Maine to Bahamas for 1300 with the requirement I be north of NC June 15 and out of the water between 10/15 and 5/15. I had to purchase a special Bermuda endorsement for 750.
No one else would touch me for the trip to Bermuda for less than 3500 and requiring experience crew. As I said, Markel required that I be with them a year before covering an offshore passage.

ParticipantBob,
Do not get the tape! The Indulgence has tape and it has been comming off in bits in pieces over the last three years. Unfortunately it leaves the glue behind. I have to remove the glue residue and repaint every year…but not enough to get the remaining tape up. So the process repeats year after year.
Unfortunately, it is bumpy and really looks bad up close. I can’t state strongly enough…the tape is a terrible idea.

ParticipantJust to add my two cents…
I agree with with Linus, check the connections. I had a similar issue last year..it was a loose connection at the battery.
My experiences working the the boat this weekend echo that refrain; always check the connections. Last year, my high-water bilge alarm stopped working as well as a my knot log. Today, I was working on the boat and decided to tackle these two issues. First I started checking the connections and found two loose connections (one was the neg and the other was a faulty connector). Feeling good, I moved on to the knot log. I re-adjusted the connection and pulled the “spinny thing”…and again success.
Always check the connections first.

ParticipantThanks all for your responses…I am scheduling a survey for mid-April (it takes some time to get the cover off and get her put back together). I’ll keep the group updated on my insurance drama.
Rich, I will be berthed at Penno’s wharf on 6/25 and 6/26. Please do stop by…I’d love to share some rum from Indulgence’s stores with you. Late afternoon would probably be the best time to catch us, as we should be back from our island adventures enjoying a cocktail.

ParticipantI have used the Mizzen as a riding sail several times….
One particular time that I recall was that we were anchored in 40ft with all our rode out, quite a fetch of water and all sails put away for the night. The wind had increased to 20 knots after we had turned in. I did not have the mizzen rigged and the boat was sailing about her anchor. At times the boat was beem to the waves, making it impossible to sleep with the rocking.
After a hour of this, I decided to set the mizzen. I hosted the mizzen and sheeted it very flat. The boat stopped sailing around and the motion became much more comfortable and I was able to get a good night’s sleep. There wasn’t much noise (much less than than the banging about when the boat was rocking).
Now, whenever at anchor and the wind is up, I set my mizzen, though I haven’t used the mizzen while on a mooring.

ParticipantThanks Rich….I have ordered Kollmann’s book. Also thanks for the tip on the tool.
Yes…it is an engine driven system. I really do need to figure out how to charge the system. I’ll give it another try this weekend. Thanks again.

ParticipantHello Paul,
I just finished replacing the chain plates on Indulgence. I did not go up in size. Please make sure the covers will fit over the lager width chain plates…the covers on Indulgence are pretty close fitting and probably would not have fit using the increased width.
The project was more time consuming than I had thought. I had all the chain plates cut to the same size and with no bends. Fort the most part, everything went back together nicely.
