ParticipantAloha Mary:
I just recently replaced all of the faucets and sink basins on my boat. After hooking it all back together, I had similar problems. The cold water sputtered but still delivered while the hot water didn’t show. The water pump worked fine before the plumbectomy, so I was puzzled. I replaced the pump and all worked fine after. No more problems, but I abandoned my search for the reason why.

How true! We looked long and hard for an appropriate boat for our “base” in Hawai’i. Although Lady Leanne needed work, it was in the right place at the right time at the right price. Rather than spend the thousands required to move a 424 to Hawai’i, it made more sense to put the money into upgrading a “bird in the hand”. Of course, the final deciding factor was that a slip came with the boat (they are extremely hard to find in this state).

Unless our GPS unit is off, we managed to maintain 8k with Lady Leanne off of Diamondhead in 20-22k with all the rags up and one reef in the main. I believe this was for a period of about 10 minutes at one hellacious heel.

Thanks for the heads up. I noticed this when I finally got all of the pieces in one place and was wondering how to deal with the curvature. The putty idea will take care of it!

Thanks. Now I can plan the layout per “Plan B” and make the cut for the access door.

Following Bob Fine’s advice, I purchased a 13 x 23 slam latch from West (490540). That I will install shortly.
My original question was about the space between the aft most wall of the shower liner and the wooden bulkhead forward of the chart table. I would like to know this before I cut the hole for the access door because it may impact where I mount the hand held shower unit. I am thinking about installing the shower slide mount and the fitting for the hand held unit on this wall and will need some clearance to fit the water supply line.

ParticipantPatrick is right. Scrape…scrape…scrape. Then again.
I found some great 20 oz. cut pile marine quality olefin from, of all places, pontoonstuff.com. This stuff is a very flexible and light with rubber backing. Contact cement will make this an easy job. (I did the same thing with shag in a van 30+ years ago).

After reviewing the logs for Lady Leanne, my confidence in the P424 is well founded. The PO ran day charters out of Kaua’i for several years and was in the direct path of Hurricane Iniki in ’92. The entries are spellbinding as he set seven anchors and faced winds of 160+. Besides some damage to the anchor platform, cleats and rig, she rode the storm well. Per his continuous detailed log entries, there was never any oil canning damage. I’ve recently pushed the boat hard around Oahu and never noticed any problems.

I’ve been knocking around the boat community on Oahu for a few months now and haven’t heard of this boat. To my best knowledge (through broker friends) there are only two P424’s on island. Perhaps they might be on another island in the chain. I’ll keep a weather eye out.

Seriously though, I sailed from Hilton Head to Bmda on a 62′ ketch. Wind was on the nose all of the way. It made me understand the value of extra jerry cans on deck as extensive tacking didn’t fit into the skippers time table. Don’t cut the fuel supply thin.

Do you have any pix/advice on the additional dorade installation? Where did you locate them?

You DID buy Island Muse. Congrats! Are you at Ko Olina? I’m down at Keehi (not State Keehi) and will be on island 3/8-3/22. Let’s have a beer, compare boats and talk projects.

ParticipantThe PO on Lady Leanne also painted this area around the whole boat (head included) white as well as the wall under the stairs in the main saloon. This really alleviates the teak “cave” look.
Another “trick” that I just installed on our boat to warm up the cabin is using sheets of acrylic mirror. I had one trimmed to cover the entire bulkhead behind the galley sink (also a good backsplash) and will have another installed on the forward bulkhead above the v berth. Like any mirror, it really opens up the size of the cabin as well as reflecting existing light to brighten it up below. I used the 1/4″ stuff, which is much stiffer and easier to work with. I think the 4×8 sheet cost me around $150 in Honolulu.
I also used this material to install mirrors on the inside upper panels of the forward cabin and the head doors (the wife is happier).

ParticipantIf the door doesn’t take any great stress and is only for prevention of water intrusion, you might think of buying an access hatch from West. I purchased one for installation in the shower and it is sturdy with a watertight seal around it. Various sizes are available. Easy installation!
