    Hank,

Great idea, and have just been discussing a similar option. Might look at removing the steering quadrant and dropping a pre-drilled Delrin block over the shaft and bolting to the cross member.

Trying to figure out how to retain the quadrant from the old autopilot as a lever arm for the new autopilot. Reasoning behing this is that the old quadrant is keyed to the rudder shaft and is rock solid. Also, the pivot position is lower (closer to the crossbeam).

    Cheers

    Linus,

I tapped a 6mm thread into the mizzen track and bolted it through the table on the one end. On the other end there are two supports on the steering pedestal that are also attached, and provide support.

My intention is to use some attachment that will secure the top of the panel to the mizzen track. Currently the table top has two pins that go through the base that hold it in place. The two pins go through the base into the table.

There is no contact with the standing rigging, however, I have yet to try it out in rough conditions and hope that it does not shake things around – too much!

Guess I am going to have to find the blades as they had better not get up to mishief when bashing to weather!

The “fishing line” was a 25mm plastic pipe, just small enough to fit between the shower floor and ply base.

I think my next job will be to make a few more bilge hatches. I envy those yachts with full access to the bilges.

I read with interest how, on installing a hatch in the shower, the number of folk who dropped the cut-out of the panel behind the shower – never to be seen again…..

This weekend I decided to replace the shower mixer and add a hatch in the shower. Whilst cutting the hole I lost a few jigsaw blades – never to be seen again.
I cut the hole, and was extremely proud that I was able to secure the cut-out before it disappeared.

Fortunately I had chosen a large hatch, and was able to work behind the shower with relative ease. During the replacement of the mixer, and as I was finishing up, my head knocked the side of the hatch and my spectacles fell into the void behind the shower!

Now was the time to find where “never to be found again” actually is.
Dropped a flashlight into the void, only to find that there was no light beam in the bilges! The reality is that there is a plywood base under the shower pan that separates the shower base and the bilge. It is within that space that my glasses lay.

Tried a vacuum cleaner, but to no avail – just dust. I was now in a panic as this mysterious void had gobbled up jigsaw blades, and now my glasses!

To cut a long story short, I probed with a piece of hose and eventually hooked the glasses!

    Much relief.

The hatch is great, and the new mixer works a treat!

    Thanks Guys,

Guess I must have a few supports missing. Besides the two around the heads area, the next two are just forward of the bilge, and no more. All these four have a large pad on the hull to spread the load. There does appear to be any support for the water tank.

Had to do something to support the cross beams that run across the cabin sole so I added vertical supports just forward and aft of the mast using the keel step as a support. This made quite a difference, and then added a support beneath the cross beams and the half round fibreglass stringer that runs forward to aft as part of the hull.

Not sure of the reason for not having the cabin sole bonded more directly to the hull, and there is probably some design aspect to it.

    Thanks
    Again

That is the starboard side done, and now for the port side.
