I looked into this a few years ago for a Catalina. I could not justify the cost for that boat. The company is looked at was http://www.marskeel.com/

Sorry i cannot give you the answers for your other questions but this will give you somewhere to start looking and an idea of the cost.

The electric motor works great. it has a silonoid that swithes polarity to reverse the motor. the problem is the second gear set that will not turn in the direction that the main shaft needs to turn in order for the chain to let out. i am not sure about the cluch set up. i will check into that, but looking at the main shaft the gipsy is on a shaft with a keyway so all the gears would have to turn in order for the chain to run out. i called Lewmar yesterday and they could not provide any information, the response was to buy a new windless, yours is obsolete. any way i think i will just replace that bearing anyway, 40$ for one bearing. i agree that a way to let out the chain without the motor should be an option and i have let it out by picking it up out of the gipsy and doing it by hand. retrieved it the same way. i will let you know the finding when i finally find out but if someone has one of these windlesses please chime in.
    thanks

the motor does turn. i now have it on the bench at home and have all the gears but the middle one completely out and the gear will only turn one direction. that was a good thought and one of the first things looked at.
    thanks

On my last boat with a universal 25XP, i needed glow plugs. i took one of the old one’s to a local diesel shop and got the same plug for half what the marine places wanted. Maybe that will work for you.

i am sure the one of the leaks is the sail track. all the bolts holding the track down are loose, very loose. i tightened some of them and the leaking slowed. the biggest worry i had was if possibly Pearson used a wood spacer or something in there that may be rotting and me not know it. thanks for the info about the hull to deck joint being just fiberglass, that makes the job easier.
    thanks

I found the problem. it was somewhere in the wireing that powers the fuel shut off silanoid. i just replaced the wire and the problem went away. the old wireing had been butchered anyway.

Thanks very much. this is what i had been missing. if the wiring to the solinoid is like the rest of the fuel system this could be causing the intermittent shutdown. i will verify that all the wiring is sound then move on.

I do not have a cable to shut down the engine. i also dont have the fuel shut off on the tanks. i was thinking that when you turned the key off it turned off the fuel pump, but then on my other boat with a 25xp you could turn off the fuel pump and the engine would continue to run. after reading my manuals it appears to have a fuel shutoff valve somewhere. i would be a couple of weeks before i get back to this. time and distance. thanks for anymore insite you can give.

it ran fine on the sea trial.
the fuel has been polished and the tanks cleaned with new filters.
I cannot fine the electric fuel shutoff. i know it has one or you couldnt shut off the engine with just the key.is it on top of the highpressure pump?
i am trying to look at all the easy stuff first. if you have to have 12 volts to the shutoff for it to open, or how does it work.
i plan to eliminate one thing at the time and will post results.

I think so. the boat was a Jekyll harbor when we bought her but had been at brunswick landing. She is Pride and Joy. the name will be changed. i no a renaming ceremony is called for.

thanks for the welcome. i am on Jeckyll Island Ga. we just closed on the boat and all the pictures i have are of the previous owners stuff. i will get some posted asap. from everything i have been able to find I too think the hull and engines are the same. i look forward to a long and helpful relationship here. i need all the help i can get. this is my third sailboat but the others were catalina’s and the systems on this boat are much more complex. at least more of it.
    thanks again.
