Aloha Dan were you out there in that mess, never saw so many boats in the harbor at one time. Anyway only had time to gather guns, rice and fishing equipment, water maker on board, if you call that ready? it was kind of weird waiting for the big bang to come around the corner at Koko head. We figurted we had 1 1/2 seconds to get ready for the swell once we saw the lead boat start to wobble. It turned out to be an easty sail back to the marina. I guess that was a good wakeup call, jim s/v island muse – cutter #217

Have a look at that beauty – Jubliee – when i looks at her pic’s on twitter she has a double set of turn blocks located aft of the primarys. will that give you the advantage by having parted line in lieu of a straigth pull form the fair lead block??? just a thought…

    Aloha from Hawaii

Hey guys i have a favor to ask. I am interested in getting one of passerelle type boarding ladders that SV Sarah has on their vessel. so far i have spoken to Besenzoni, imtra and looked at nemo. they all have simalar type aluminum folding gangway type ladders but i would like to look into the passerelle type stainless steel that drops down as a swim ladder. Besenzoni says they no longer make the stainless steel version “manual type” i think the number is a pt 164.

if you see anything that may be of interest at the boat show, please contact me at with any info: james bartch 808 256-6616 honolulu hawaii.

I am stern tied to the dock similar to med mooring style. the pricing i am seeing is in Euro’s at 1.4 times the US buck plus air freight “wow”.

and i am as far west as you can get… your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Aloha to All

Thank you all for the advice, it looks like $1450.00 for a new re build is the best bang for the buck – shipped form seattle. I have made some calls around here but I do not really have much confidnce in the local guys here in hawaii doing the work. Still working on that one before i buy.

Still a little confused on the shaft break, i got th gear out fairly easy but have not seem anything looking like a brake.
the gear just attaches direct to the walter v- drive unit

i am still working on my delima – that is i have some good news and bad, As it turns out i have a 1997 or 1998 westerbeke (hour reading at 474 hrs in 2002 according to the survey?) with a borg warner 1:1 ratio gear and a walter rv20 v drive. some of the notes say 1997 perkins 4-154??? are they the same motors?

i have serial no’s on both the engine and gear so i am assuming that i can find the exact models.

anyone know of a spare borg warner gear around, not many out here in hawaii?

    Thanks for the reccommendations-

    Aloha to All

We have mast pulpits installed on island muse and love them. Tors details are spot on. if were to make a reccommendation it would be to add eye lets at the base connections. its a great location to pin your haylards so they stop clanking on the mast. Dan you are welcome to stop by and have a look I am at Da Store! (fuel dock). Ours has backing plates under the coach roof and the bolts go clear thru the roof liner, not sure i like that but (no leaks yet). The liner does not appear to be indented form the backing plates so i am assuming that we have a spacer backing for the gap between the deck and liner.

the thru bolting appears to be solid as a rock, but as i said i am a little unsure of the potential for leaks???

that’s my 2 cents, i can send out pics if someone is interested.

i love this stuff, that looks like a pretty kool deck fitting Tor – have you given the fresh water/salt water option a thought since you have access to both in the same area. in the forward Vee. the only thing i was thing is that if you have one thingy that will do two thingy’s you save having another system to deal with. i actually like the idea of getting those wet bodies (bikini’s as they say here in hawaii) up on the bow for a quick cold , wet rinse!. just kidding,

Hey i just installed a 5.0 gpm wash down system in the anchor locker and was thinking of putting in a tee or y to the forward freshwater holding tank so we could get a quick rinse after going for a swim…

is it a bad idea to combine a fresh and salt water system. i would have the proper valves and back flow preventers to prevent cross contamination.

just courious about what others are doing, 5 gmp is a lot of pressure and will really go thru the fresh water quickly but would save us adding a seperate hot/cold rince set up!

Many Mahalo’s to all the tips on a proper stove installation. I have a new stove coming, planning on replacing everything from the stove to the locker w/ soleniod switch at the stove – new hose continuious to the tank locker – solenoid in the locker – two new tanks – one regulator – one solenoid one supply line w/ BBQ tee and one new vent line from the locker to overboard discharge. (no breaks in the line). clean and simple! hope thats it. and Oh – a big hole in the wallet.

Island Muse is coming along pretty sweet, soon to be on that cap and rub rail re finishing… and pitcure time

    Tanks Pleny,

    Aloha to All

in reading the posts, i am assuming that Island Muse is the original layout??? stove w/elect. shut off switch & soleniod near the stove – copper continuious to the locker w/over board vent to transom- second soleniod to the regulator, regulator to tee, tee to pressure gauge then tanks (2).

I really appreciate the tips, saves me a lot of head scratching. I like the idea of placing an access port behind the stove so i can get at the line, I will inspect the vent lines and most likely replace them.

it sounds like if i go to a new supply line i should only add one switch w/ soleniod (at the galley) and keep the run continuious to the regulator?

currenly, i am a bit concerned with is the solenoid & gauges in the locker -they are working but look a little funky. the balance of the line looks to be in pretty good shape, the inside stuff looks great.

Don thanks for the ABCY standards. can you tell me if there are any requirements to lenght of run. I was going to have Fisheries in Seattle make up the line and they need a lenght. mine goes form the Lpg locker (port corner aft) across the transom (inside the locker to starboard) along starboard rail line thru the equipent locker behind the nav station. cross to the cupboard behind the galley down in the galley wall and out. i was thinking of adding a extra loop or so to make sure i do not end up with arun short???

or should i consider a threaded connection (not sweged) on the tank locker side and cut it to lenght after i make the run?? if that is possible?

so far i only noticed the one vent at the locker, looks like i need to look for one more inside?

Many thanks for the responce. I had a great survey and during the haul out – checked rudder post, shaft Max prop (polished and shined) cutless checked out fine, did the bottom job with petit trinadad$ and had The surveyor used was the same form the 05 purchase so we ahd some history on the vessel. I am hoping the the problem is recent.

i am pretty sure that the guy Mark Brewer (previous to the 06 sale) was a real sailor and if i could would like to compliament him on his work . I found the vessel was preped as he left it o6 right down the the dried nuts and fruit in the ditch bag…… (ready to curise) almost! That being said i wanted to get to this stray current issue…..

i have not done a detailed search of the site but would like to get some electrical plans if possible …. to start with.

note: the condition of the thru hulls – other than needing to be cleaned was “good” no pink, or signs of failure. shaft and prop was fine. short of pulling them for inspection, cutless was tight.

i like the drop zinc idea, it does not appear that this boat was sailed much in the last two years, the owner did send a fair amount on the engine and i am told the v drive was rebuilt a year or so ago???

now she has a fresh bottom job, zincs at the prop, shaft and rudder post base, hull rubbed out and polished and i am in the process of cleanup all the grounding connections inside but have not found the grounding bus yet so i can trace all the ground leads. she has a 50 amp serice and 50 power coard in to the boat, inverter, ssb and most all crusing gear….

that is about all i know at this point, still hoping the problem is recent but not for sure… we picked it picked her on the survey……….

please continue with your comments,,, aloha from hawaii
