Tor….I think the tranny is original to the boat. She spent most of her life as a dock queen and didn’t have a lot of hours on her. We’ve changed the transmission oil 7-8 times and still not as clear as I’d like it. Going to keep going.

Thinking I might pull the tranny this fall anyway. My question is, should I go to someone who specializes in marine transmissions? Will a regular car transmission shop work just as well?

I’ve used a hand pump to suck out as much of the transmission fluid as I could. I’ll get the new one cooler on and run new fluid through the transmission, suck it out, repeat, repeat, repeat…. until it comes out clear. Keeping my fingers crossed that I caught it in time and there won’t be any problems.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I spoke to lenco coolers and ordered a new cooler. ($265) Should arrive today. Hope to have everything up and running by this weekend. As long as the transmission is ok, I’ll wait until it’s out of the water this winter to remove it and have it serviced/rebuilt. Once again, thanks! It’s great knowing there’s a place to go to when there’s a problem with our boats.

    Hey Rod,

Just wanted to check to see if the engine is pumping water and if you figured out what the problem was. I had a flow problem, not the same as yours though. I popped the top off the v-drive and found a lot build up and cleaned it out (carefully). I have better flow now. Good Luck!

If I can trust my computer navigation software, it would appear that we’re supposed to meet at Wheatfield Cove, using the coordinates that are given. Sean and I look forward to meeting all you. We plan to arrive on Saturday the 9th.

Tor, you’re right. Sorry about that. Sshhh, don’t tell my husband I screwed that one up so bad 😳 I was just sitting here last night thinking about looking up the mast at the windex and that’s the number that came to mind. I think I was tired.

I’m still trying to get a handle on trimming the sails, etc. to get the most out of the boat. I figured if I’m getting average speed out of our old sails then maybe I’m getting it. She seems to like that point of sail best. I think downwind is the worst. But that could also be a matter of sail trim. Still learning…..

On Jubilee I pulled the mast step ,to clean it up. When I went to it put back on noticed the same as you . There seemed to be somecompression between the glass and leadballist.I faired the area ,mostly to eliminate any small puddles of water. And destribute mast compression more evenly. Also installed slightly longer lagbolts into the lead

Thanks everyone for your respones. I had to pull the starter, to rebuild it. And had to pull brake to get at it .One of the pads fell off ,and i just looked at .Asked myself ,why put the whole mess back on? Juilee has a three blade flexoprop on her. Which has plenty of power in foreword and reverse . But makes her walk (run) to port at more than half astern. Note. Pulled starter for what I thought was the solenoid. But was rust on the pinoin shaft. Getting starter total rebuild. Also have complete manuals on w58 ,velvit drive ,.r20 vdrive .If anyone is intrerested.

we just barrier coated Jubilee this spring. we also had her soda-blasted first. 4 coats interluxe. alternated gray/white (a very good idea). then three coats bottom paint (one red, then 2 black). Interluxe went on really well. timing was important.

thanks for all the information. We were looking at the Loos and was wondering if it was going to be worth the outlay of funds. I’m more apt to buy it now. thanks!

After removing all the wallpaper, we used Rustoleum single part epoxy paint (bright white). 2 coats. We used the gloss finish as it reflects light back into the cabin. I’m not sure how to post a picture, but I did put some on our flickr account.

Thanks to Jim Barch for the nice words about our Jubilee. We have turning blocks aft of the primaries (48’s). We find they give a mechanical advantage to trimming the genoa. It hasn’t felt overloaded at any time, but then again, we’ve only had her for a year and haven’t done a whole lot of sailing on her yet. 🙂 I’m not real internet saavy and am not sure how to post pictures of the blocks, however, there are pictures on Flickr (pearson group) of them. I have just posted a few more at different angles, but they’ll take some time to show up to the group. However, searching pearson 424 jubilee sailing should bring up all our pictures, even the newer ones.

Tor, not to highjack your thread, but we were at the Newport RI boat show this weekend and were speaking to a gentleman on the Valiant 50 there and he said we should tell you he said hi the next time we were on the website. He was the broker for the boat. I believe his name was Josh. Sorry, I’m not great with names….
